Finding your nearest family court — the UK map of venues

Not every court hears family cases

Family cases in England and Wales are heard at designated family courts — not every courthouse does family work. This page explains how to find the right one.

The official tool

HMCTS "Find a Court or Tribunal": https://www.find-court-tribunal.service.gov.uk

Enter your postcode or town; search for the court named on your notice of hearing. It shows address, contact, hours, facilities, and which areas of law it handles.

How to choose the right court

1. Read your notice of hearing — it names the exact venue. Follow it. 2. When filing (C100, Form A), apply to the family court covering where the child lives (for children cases) or your local family court (for financial remedy). 3. Use the HMCTS tool to confirm contact details before attending. 4. Check the court is still open — some venues close or transfer (see our closed-venue pages).

Closed and relocated venues

A number of family courts have closed or been consolidated. We track these — see our redirect/guidance pages for North London, Wimbledon, Southend, Dartford, Cheltenham, Richmond, Sutton and Weston-super-Mare, each pointing to the receiving venue.
